Snowboarding Thrills in Zermatt

Snowboarding in Zermatt is the ultimate dream of every snowboarder. Why, you may ask. Well, maybe because Zermatt, which is nestled at the foot of the wonderfully majestic Matterhorn, has amazing and challenging terrain that surpasses any other. In spectacular panoramic scenery you can snowboard the 21km of runs on the Theodul glacier, maybe dare to overcome the popular black run at the National or champion the moguls at the notably challenging Triftji.

Whatever you choose you will not be disappointed because these areas there to excite and test your snowboarding skills. As well as those already mentioned there are other areas that snowboarders can enjoy, such as the 39km of untouched powder yellow runs, where boarders can free ride on the steeps and drops and the 200m super-pipe in Gravity Park where freestylers can show off their skills.
So as you can see there is a lot to do and great fun to be had by all in Zermatt.

Zermatt Snow Parks

If going down the slopes at a fast pace is not enough excitement for you anymore or has become too easy, you could always try making up new tricks on your board at one of Zermatt's snow park areas. The main park called Gravity Park is located on the lower slopes of the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise area has kickers, jumps and rails of varying sizes as well as a highly maintained super pipe and half pipe.

Over at Blauherd there is a smaller park with jumps and rails perfect for beginners or anyone who finds Gravity Park too daunting to tackle.

Snowboarding Levels

You don't have to be an intermediate or advanced boarder to snowboard at Zermatt as there are good facilities for beginners too. Here is a breakdown of levels of snowboarding in Zermatt.

Snowboarding for Beginners

There are a range of areas that are suitable for beginners to learn how to snowboard. Zermatt has nursery slopes in all the main zones, but you will find wide open runs favourable for beginners in Matterhorn Glacier Paradise. Nevertheless, Trokenersteg and Sunnegga have been classified as the best areas with the latter being set up with easy-to-ride conveyor lifts.

If you have children in your party there is a great childrens' ski school at 'Wolli Park' on Sunnegga Paradise. All in all there are also some excellent ski schools offering tuition all year round.

Intermediate Snowboarders

Zermatt offers excellent snowboarding with fantastic long and varied runs for intermediates. The Rothorn sector has a 1500m vertical with super long reds or if you want to go higher you can always try going up to Gornergrat at 3400m above sea level. But it doesn't stop there, there are gondolas and cable cars that can take you up to the highest point of all, the Klein Matterhorn at 3820m, which is 2,200 vertical metres above the village. Imagine the results, your legs burning as you speed your way across Zermatt's beautifully pisted intermediate slopes. Sheer adrenaline!

Advanced Snowboarders

Zermatt is arguably the ideal place for advanced snowboarders. With steep runs, long descents, powder slopes, off-piste trails, bumps and moguls Zermatt has something to satisfy any experienced snowboarders needs.
