Seven Reasons to Vacation in Jamaica
The ResortsThe large, waterfront all-inclusive resorts of Jamaica are excellent places for vacationers. Families in particular will enjoy the wide-range of activities offered by the resorts, which include plenty of fun things to occupy the children. You can’t go wrong with an all-inclusive, but there are other options, too, such as quaint bed-and-breakfasts that offer a quieter atmosphere.
Jamaican BeachesJamaican beaches are simply gorgeous, and they make the country one of the most popular destinations in the world for tropical vacations.
The clear, blue ocean waters and the white sand are breathtaking, and there is so much to do besides sunbathing. Snorkeling, jet skiing, kayaking, parasailing, fishing, and other fun water activities are popular. You can find Jamaican food stands, beach bars, reggae music, open-air restaurants, craft stands, and more.
Weather in JamaicaThe weather in Jamaica is great for a beach vacation just about all-year round. The tropical climate means it’s almost always warm, so it’s a great place for northerners to visit in the winter. The average annual temperature is 81 degrees Fahrenheit, and it’s not too humid, either.
The ShoppingWhen you’re in Jamaica, you have to spend some time shopping on the island. There are many outdoor markets where local vendors sell handmade crafts and souvenirs, art, specialty foods, rum, cigars, and more. You can also find duty-free items at excellent prices, like jewelry, clothing, watches, perfumes, leather goods, and more. You won’t be able to resist the beautiful wares and the amazing prices, so be sure to leave a little extra room in your suitcase.
The MountainsJamaica has a variety of landscapes, so there’s much more to see than just the pristine beaches. The mountain ranges offer great hiking and horseback-riding opportunities. There is a variety of exotic flora and fauna to see, and you can get a stunning view of the sunset or sunrise. The Blue and John Crow Mountains National Park is a great destination for nature lovers.
The CultureThe Jamaican culture is colorful and fun, and it’s an excellent representation of the Caribbean. The people of Jamaica are friendly and welcoming, and you’re sure to find lots of music, dancing, and merriment. There are also lots of historical sightseeing opportunities, where you can take a peek into Jamaica’s colonial past and view some great architecture.
The FoodIf you have an adventurous palate, you’ll enjoy trying out some traditional Jamaican and Caribbean cuisine. It’s very flavorful and very spicy. The traditional dish is Ackee and saltfish, and you can find some excellent Caribbean rum, too. For those who aren’t so keen on spicy foods, there are plenty of food options that give you a taste of local flair without so much spice.
