Family Resorts in the Canary Islands

Guest post fromJames Howson is an avid traveller and timeshare expert with over a decade of experience reviewing top resorts. He owns an Anfi Beach Club timeshare and has spent many vacations on each of the Canary Islands, particularly at various Tenerife timeshare resorts.

The islands of Tenerife, Lanzarote, Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura have grown rapidly in popularity as a family holiday destination over the past decade, with budget airlines offering far more affordable flights to the Canary Islands. The surge in popularity has resulted in tonnes of brand new hotel and apartment complexes appearing across the four islands, making it ever harder for parents to choose the right location for their family holiday. Here is a pick of five top resorts that offer something for adults and children alike.

Anfi del Mar, Gran Canaria

The crème-de la crème of the Canary Islands resorts, the Anfi Group has offered unrivalled luxury to holidaymakers since the late eighties. With regular facelifts and improvements, the vast complex now contains four separate holiday clubs all of which spill out from the cliff faces of the Gran Canaria coastline onto a beautiful sandy and secluded beach. With ample facilities including numerous pools for the children and of course the wonderful proximity of the clear North Atlantic Ocean, the Anfi timeshare resort is a class apart and visitors can snap up a luxury apartment for peanuts with a timeshare rental.

Dunas Club, Fuerteventura

Situated in Corralejo, just a stone’s throw from the beach and with views out across to Lobos Island, the Dunas Club in Fuerteventura is a quiet and friendly family resort that is very much the pick of the island’s accommodation. Fuerteventura is still developing somewhat as a tourist destination; playing catch up to the more established rival islands of Lanzarote and Tenerife in particular. However, there is plenty of wildlife and scenery to explore for active families and the lure of the pools and beaches in Corralejo make the perfect base from which to enjoy the near-guaranteed scorching sunshine. Jardin de Amadores, Gran Canaria Chic and stylish, Amadores is a real favourite with parents who like to live in luxury for a week or whatever the length of their stay. Situated a short walk from the popular coastal town of Puerto Rico, the resort spills out from the Gran Canarian cliff faces onto the golden sands of the highly regarded Amadores beach, a destination that is well-known for its glitz. With excellent sports facilities to keep young and old alike busy and large staggered balconies that simply invite the gorgeous Canary Islands sunshine, Jardin de Amadores is the perfect place to enjoy a relaxing family vacation.

Santa Barbara Golf & Ocean Club, Tenerife

A beautiful combination of attractive whitewash apartments and the deep blue of the North Atlantic Ocean and various on-site swimming pools, Santa Barbara Golf & Ocean Club is a picture perfect Diamond Resort on the sizzling south coast of the isle of Tenerife. Just a short walk from the prestigious golf course that hosts the Tenerife Open and even closer to the sea, the resort boasts a brilliant array of activities for children and is conveniently less than a few miles from the south Tenerife airport.

Beverly Hills Heights, Tenerife

Just a mile away from the thriving town of Los Cristianos and tucked away in the quiet and secluded area of Oasis del Sur, Beverly Hills Heights offers holidaymakers the perfect combination – half peaceful retreat in the sun, half lively coastal resort. With plenty of friendly watering holes and quality eateries nearby, as well as an excellent free shuttle bus down to the beautiful beaches of Los Cristianos, the resort is a great getaway, including an incredible range of facilities including squash and tennis courts, a gymnasium, bowling alley, kids club, sauna, nightclub and cabaret and of course a gorgeous pool in which to cool off.
